Abstract

The Macedonian, Continental, Asia Minor (Ionian and Pontic) and Cyan associations were established and operated with two main roles: (a) the preservation of their special ethnolinguistic and cultural identity and (b) the promotion of the relevant or so-called national (liberating) aspirations with a pan-Hellenic dimension. Due to the second expediency, we often see members of Hellenism, who do not functionally belong to their specific geographical area, to be members and executives of the specific body.
